G.H.O.S.T.S Is In Stores Everywhere 08/27/13
Wanting to take all of his life experiences and everything that he has seen around him, Ryan “Young Strum” Tobias embraced the art of music so that everyone can hear his spoken word. Ryan “Young Strum” Tobias was born on December 21st 1986 in New Orleans, LA. As a child, Young Strum along with his 3 other siblings, was raised by his mom who was a single parent for the sometime of his life. As his mom kept their home stable, Young Strum never wanted to let his mom down and with this became very ambitious in everything that he did. At an early age, he felt that words were more powerful than any other form of expression and with this became a poet. As he enhanced his poetry, Young Strum soon fell in love with the art of music. Collaborating his poetry and his love for music, at age 12 he wrote his first hip hop song “Jack n Jill”.
Not wanting to stop there, he and some of his friends formed a crew called Soldier Boyz where they worked on their material in his moms shed in the back yard. As time went by and people began going their separate ways, Young Strum continued in his path of music to which many disastrous tragedies began altering his life.
In 2001, Young Strum was diagnosed with cancer which he battled for two years. After an impressive recovery, he then faced more pain as his step-father passed away soon after his recovery.
The pain was for him but also for his mother as well to which the pain felt greater. While trying to recover from the loss of his step-father, In mourning and needing to release the pain Young Strum signed with Platinum House Records in hopes of going full fledged into his music. He felt that with the backing of a label, he can turn to music and also use his music as his outlet. After 9 months of seeing no progress and going nowhere fast, Young Strum was going to request to be released from his contract when devastation hit with the destructive Atlantic Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
The hurricane may have been the out that he needed for the unhappiness with the label but it also turned his life inside out. Death knocked at his door yet again when Hurricane Katrina took not only one but two of his sisters Kendricka and Kendra. Not being able to cope with so many deaths in such a short period of time, Young Strum fell apart. He was not the only one to be tormented by these deaths and sometime later in 2007,he lost his grandmother. Still reeling from everything that happened and without the ability to cope, Young Strum ceased his music career so that he can focus on getting himself back together.
In 2009 after an extensive hiatus, Young Strum came back to the music world with fire in his heart and a serious determination to make a change. He signed to a Indie Record Label called Soldierworldmuzik. From there he pushed to get his career moving in the right direction. Following in the footsteps of his biggest inspiration Tupac, Young Strum’s music speak of reality, life and the truth that happens everyday.
“I’ve faced a lot of death in my family as well as faced death myself. It did not break me down but made me stronger. I do not believe I am defeated, but more of a conqueror” says Young Strum. With the accomplishment of 2 mixtapes in 2011,
Young Strum is now moving his career forward with his new upcoming single “Extravaganza”. This single is to be released "Summer" of 2013 and will be his first party anthem on his upcoming album “G.H.O.S.T.S”. In the meantime, he will be releasing another mixtape called “S.F.M.N”.
My music not only tells a story about me but people in general. I feel like someone needs to tell their story and thats what I’m gonna do. Whenever you hear Y.N.O.C, you will know it can be a voice for the people and that I am coming to break all barriers” Young Strum said while talking about his new album.
