Minneapolis funk band the Time reunited in 2008 for the sake of performing at the 50th Grammy Awards ceremony. A handful of gigs followed, which led to recording sessions for the band’s first album since 1990’s Pandemonium. In September 2011, due to Prince’s ownership of their name, the members -- Morris Day, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Jesse Johnson, Jellybean Johnson, Monte Moir, and Jerome Benton -- renamed themselves the Original 7ven.
