Bay Area superstars Sammy Hagar and Neal Schon wanted to work together for some time. In 1983, Schon came off the road with Journey and the duo rounded up veteran drummer Peter Schrieve and wandering bassist Kenny Aaronson, mainly because they shared the same management. Two dates recorded on a brief tour resulted in Through the Fire. Because of the lack of popularity greeting live work, crowd noise was removed from most cuts. The HSAS reworking of "Whiter Shade of Pale" cruised heartland airwaves, but Schon immediately returned to Journey. Of course, Hagar next appeared in Van Halen. ~ Doug Stone, Rovi
