Ravens Sign QB Robert Griffin III

In a somewhat surprising move, the Baltimore Ravens announced they have signed quarterback Robert Griffin III to a one-year deal. GM Ozzie Newsome made the announcement during the team's pre-draft press conference on Wednesday.

Griffin will likely be the backup quarterback behind Joe Flacco for the upcoming 2018 season. Josh Woodrum was the only other quarterback on the Ravens roster following the conclusion of the 2017 as previous backup Ryan Mallett's contract expired.

RGIII sat out the 2017 NFL season after being cut by the Cleveland Browns before the start of the 2017 season. He was signed by the Browns in 2016 to be their starting quarterback but was injured the the first game of the regular season.

Could Griffin put some heat on Flacco in 2018? After a less-than-stellar 2017 season for Flacco, many speculate 2018 could be a make-or-break season for the 11-year veteran.

Griffin was the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2012 and a Pro Bowler that year for the Washington Redskins. He put up impressive numbers that year and in 2013, but has since had injury issues. Griffin also sat out the entire 2015 season due to an injury suffered in a preseason game.
