Officials at the University of Texas at Austin say the decision to evacuate all of the buildings on the sprawling campus north of the State Capitol following a telephoned bomb threat was the 'prudent' decision, considering all of the anti-American violence underway around the world, 1200 WOAI news reports.
"We are extremely confident that the campus is safe," UT Austin President Dr. William Powers said after the all-clear was sounded at noon.
A caller 'with a Middle Eastern' accent who claimed to be 'with Al-Qaeda' called the University’s main switchboard at about 8:30 this morning, claiming that bombs had been placed at several locations around campus, and would go off 'in ninety minutes.'
Powers says that gave authorities the opportunity to evaluate the threat, saying 'it's easy to make a phone call.'
