Every movie has had an asteroid screaming towards earth, but how many have skipped the earth destruction storyline to follow a lonely man who lost hope before the rest of the world joined in.
Dodge (Steve Carrell) is a regular guy with a regular life until an asteroid screams through space to destroy the world and make his every choice null and void. The first void becomes his marriage when his wife leaves in a panic to be with her boyfriend on the side. From there on Dodge does some introspection as every person around him goes crazy in their own special way.
Realizing he has time to find his true love he decides to trek out to find his high school sweetheart only to be joined by his hysterical pot-smoking neighbor Penny (Keira Knightly). They road trip through the streets of insanity to find a friendship neither thought could occur in the little time left.
I don't know what it is, but Steve Carrell has made a jump to Tom Hanks level with his brand of hurt and hope that comes from his face and eyes. For those who loved "Crazy, Stupid, Love"; you will love this movie. It is made of humor and heart with a love story made more from realization and fate than any karmic advisor could attest to. Enjoy it for what it is and have fun with the characters.
